Reduced ferredoxin: CO2 oxidoreductase from Clostridium pasteurianum: its role in formate metabolism.
THE ACTIVITY OF REDUCED FERREDOXIN: CO(2) oxidoreductase in Clostridium pasteurianum was correlated with the accumulation of formate in the growth medium. The data indicate that the in vivo function of the enzyme is to mediate formate synthesis rather than its degradation.

We have recently demonstrated an EPR signal in spinach ferredoxin on reduction either enzymically or with dithionite (Palmer and Sands, 1966). It is the purpose of this communication to report on the EPR spectrum found in the ferredoxin obtained from the bacterium C. pasteurianum. The ferredoxin was purified by the method of Mortenson (1964) and had an absorbancy ratio 285 rnp; 3QO rnF of 0.82....

Lovcnberg and Williams (1‘1 have reported that, when a solution of Clostridium pastewianum ferredoxin in 90% ammonium sulfate is treated on a column of DEAE-cellulose, ferredoxin is retained by the column. They showed t,hat, ferredoxin is eluted when the ammoniuni sulfate concentration is lowered to about 35c/, saturation. Thcsc observations suggested the method described in this paper for puri...
متن کاملProton magnetic resonance study of ferredoxin from Clostridium pasteurianum.
Magnetic susceptibilities of both reduced and oxidized ferredoxin from Clostridium pasteurianum were obtained in solution. Whereas the reduced form exhibits a Curie law behavior, the magnetic susceptibility of oxidized ferredoxin in fact increases with temperature and suggests extensive antiferromagnetic exchange coupling between the component iron atoms. Contact-shifted resonances are observed...
متن کاملFerredoxin-linked reduction of metronidazole in Clostridium pasteurianum.
Clostridium pasteurianum cell-free extracts enzymatically reduced metronidazole when coupled by hydrogenase via reduced ferredoxin. A 5 mM concentration of methyl viologen, flavin adenine dinucleotide, or flavin mononucleotide could completely replace ferredoxin (0.05 mM) in the in vitro reduction assay system, whereas 5 mM benzyl viologen was less effective. However, when these electron carrie...
